Grella, who has battled injuries this season, came into the starting eleven for the ill Steven N'Zonzi and did a job in midfield before being replaced on 58 minutes.

Fellow Aussie Brett Emerton, who has also had his injury troubles this campaign, was an unused substitute for Rovers.

Elsewhere in the Premier League, Richard Garcia remained on the sidelines injured as Hull City were officially relegated following a 2-2 draw with Wigan.

In England's Conference promotion playoffs, James Meredith played a full game as York City defeated Luton Town 1-0 to round out a 2-0 aggregate victory.

York are now into the final to play Oxford United for the right to promotion to League Two.

In Ireland's Premier Division, Aussie stopper Chris O'Connor was an unused sub as Bohemians defeated Drogheda United 2-1.

Over to Asia, in China's Super League, Joel Griffiths and Ryan Griffiths both started up front but couldn't break through as Beijing Guoan slipped to a 1-1 home draw with Qingdao Jonoon.

In the first-half, the Aussie pair generated plenty of chances, with Ryan forcing a good save from the Qingdao stopper with an angled header, while Joel saw a close-range header bounce over the crossbar.

Ten minutes into the second-half, Xu Yunlong found space inside the box to head Beijing ahead from a free-kick, but quarter of an hour later Qingdao got an equaliser through Aleksander Rodic.

Joel almost won it when he hooked an effort straight at the Qingdao keeper late, although the visitors spurned a great chance late when Stjepan Jukic badly miscued his shot in a one-on-one situation.

Ryan was replaced on 86 minutes, while Joel played the full game out.
