IN the new issue of FourFourTwo magazine out now, retired Socceroo Vince Grella speaks about the emerging star Tom Rogic, the transitional Socceroos and the great leaders he’s played alongside.
Grella recently retired from the Socceroos after a long battle with injury. But it’s been a stellar career that’s taken him from the Melbourne suburbs to a decade long stint in Serie A, plus the EPL and two World Cups with the Socceroos.
In his final interview in Australia before flying back to Italy, Grella told FourFourTwo magazine he had no regrets.
“I came from a family of people who work very hard. All of them, especially the generation before me, did it tough in Australia. Those people were seven day a week workers. They left in the morning when I was still asleep and came home at night when it was dark,” he said.
Grella speaks on a wide variety of issues and as a tribute to Grella, we have a picture special from his long career at club and international level.
“Unfortunately now, I think we are in a little bit of a transitional period where some of the older players are perhaps not competing at the level they were before and we have some young players coming through who are maybe not getting as much game time as they need to be able to compete at international level,” he added.
It’s a farewell interview not to be missed as he looks back on his career with the Roos and in Italy.
