AUSSIES ABROAD: Australian striker Joel Griffiths won a penalty for Beijing Guoan as they drew 1-1 at Henan Construction in China's Super League on Friday.
The 30-year-old World Cup hopeful, who has scored four goals for Beijing already this campaign, was brought down inside the box on 52 minutes.
Griffiths cunningly intercepted Zhao Peng's pass before the Henan defender mistimed his lunge on the Aussie to give Guoan a penalty which Xu Liang coolly converted.
But on 64 minutes, Henan responded when Beijing's Lang Zheng brought down Brazilian striker Netto inside the box.
Netto dusted himself off to calmly slot the spotkick to the Beijing keeper's left to earn Henan a share of the spoils.
Beijing, the reigning Chinese champions, are second, one point behind leaders Shandong Luneng.
In UAE's Football League, Michael Beauchamp's Al Jazira moved to within two points of leaders Al Wahda after a 2-0 win over Al Nasr.
In Ireland's Premier Division, Aussie goalkeeper Chris O'Connor was an unused substitute as Bohemians lost 1-0 at Dundalk.
