The club’s official website confirmed the 32-year-old Australian joined the cashed-up Chinese Super League outfit from rivals Beijing Guoan on Friday.

Griffiths has signed a one-year deal that will reportedly earn him close to $1 million as Shenhua continues to be linked with some of the biggest names in world football, including Germany international Michael Ballack.

However,  reports that Anelka’s former  Blues team-mate Didier Drogba would also be leaving Stamford Bridge for the CSL have been scotched, with the Ivorian to stay at Chelsea until June at least.

Griffiths told a press conference he was delighted to be a part of such a competitive line-up for the upcoming season and that he was looking forward to playing alongside Anelka.

The 2008 A-League Golden Boot winner scored 28 goals for Beijing Guoan during the past three years and will fill the non-Chinese Asian player spot on Shenhua’s roster.
