Needing to either win or draw their Group Two tie against Kenya in Conakry, Guinea looked more than comfortable after surging into a three-goal lead thanks to strikes from Ismael Bangoura (32), Mamadou Bah (61) and Kamil Zayatte (70).

There was a late fightback from the already-qualified Kenyans with Francis Ouma (80) and Kevin Opondo (90) reducing the deficit but it came too late as Guinea held on for a 3-2 win.

In Group Three, 2006 finalists Angola fought from a goal down to see off a spirited Niger 3-1 in Luanda.

Malam Moussa (20) gave the minnows a shock lead after 20 minutes but Angola hit back thanks to an own goal from goalkeeper Daouda Kassali (53) and further strikes from Gilberto (68) and Ze Kalanga (73).

The result ensured Mozambique went through to the next round at the expense of Uganda, who won 2-1 against Benin thanks to a second-half brace by Geofrey Massa.

Burkina Faso finished top of Group Nine with a 3-1 win in Burundi. Aristide Bance (18) fired the visitors ahead before substitute Claude Nahimana (43) drew his side level shortly before half-time.

But two goals from Moumouni Dagano (68 and 85) put the Burkinabe back ahead as they ended as group winners ahead of Tunisia.

Finally, Egypt thumped Djibouti 4-0 in Cairo courtesy of strikes by Emad Moteab (19), Ahmed Hassan (50), Mohamed Aboutrika (66) and a Said Riyad own goal in injury time.

The result ensured Egypt claimed the top spot in Group 12.

The 20 teams qualified teams will now be drawn into five groups of four with the winners of each qualifying for the 2010 finals in South Africa.

Cameroon, Kenya, Guinea, Benin, Nigeria, Ghana, Gabon, Algeria, Ivory Coast, Mozambique, Morocco, Rwanda, Tunisia, Burkina Faso, Mali, Sudan, Zambia, Togo, Malawi and Egypt await the draw in Zurich on October 22.

The final round of qualifying gets under way in February.
