Adelaide United defender Ersan Gulum says his side gave their all in Sunday's 2-1 elimination final defeat to Melbourne Victory and believes their 2017/18 season was a success.
The Reds bowed out of the finals after late goals from Leroy George and Besart Berisha condemned them to defeat, despite Nikola Mileusnic putting them ahead on 57 minutes.
United finished second last in 2016/17 before bouncing back with this term's fifth spot.
"For me, my first year in the A-League and Marco's (Kurz) first year, this team finishng last last year and then playing finals it's a great achievement," Gulum told Fox Sports.
"For all of the young boys, half of them it's their first finals, they'll only get better hopefully."
United played a counter-attacking style which almost worked perfectly after Mileusnic put them ahead from a quick free-kick.
"I think we did our job really well," Gulum said.
"I think we can take the positives out of it and look back and think we had a great year."
