Melbourne boy Dylan Mathews was taking a stroll and had a banana which was on the verge of falling out of its pocket.

Mathews then received a tap on his shoulder and it was none other than former Socceroo coach Guus Hiddink.

The 24-year-old then had a good chat to the Dutchman and the pair posed for a photo afterwards. Hiddink is in Russia working as a pundit for American TV.

“The banana was about to fall out of my bag pocket, I heard a voice from behind tell me, I turned around and it was Guus,” Mathews told FourFourTwo in Kazan.

“I think my mates thought I just approached him for a photo, but there was a lot more to it.

“We had a brief chat, he was a really nice guy.”

After the encounter, Mathews said many other Aussies noticed Hiddink and approached him for a photo and a chat.

Mathews will be following the Australians around Russia and will be attending all three group games in Kazan, Samara and Sochi.
