Hamburg hope to announce who will be their next coach by the end of the week as they whittle down a list of candidates to replace Martin Jol.
Jol resigned last week to take over at Ajax and, since then, director of sport Dietmar Beiersdorfer and chairman Bernd Hoffmann have been busy looking for the right man to replace him.
Their search is now nearing its conclusion and, as Beiersdorfer revealed to the Bild newspaper today, a decision is imminent.
"We had a shortlist and we are now working it down," he said.
"Our search for a new coach has the utmost priority."
Whoever takes over will inherit a squad four players lighter than it was a week ago.
Ivica Olic has completed a free transfer to Bayern Munich while Albert Streit, Michael Gravgaard and Marcel Ndjeng, who all spent the second half of the season on loan with the club, have been told they will not be given full-time contracts.
