SOCCEROO Scott Chipperfield was on target as Basle maintained their unbeaten start to the new Swiss season with a 2-0 victory over Bellinzona.
The hosts took the lead after eight minutes through Chipperfield with Ivan Ergic adding the second in the 76th minute.
It was Basle's third win in as many matches and saw them climb to the top of the table, three points clear of a cluster of clubs which includes Neuchatel Xamax, who ran out 1-0 winners over Lucerne.
Julio-Hernan Rossi netted the only goal six minutes from time to inflict a third successive defeat on the basement boys.
Life is certainly looking up for Chipperfield after a miserable time with injury recently and only last week he spoke of his desire to take part in the next stage of World Cup qualifying with the Socceroos.
Coach Pim Verbeek is also expected to pay him a visit in the coming weeks.
