EUROROO WRAP: Harry Kewell scored for Galatasary in the Turkish Super Lig as they played Genclerbirligi with Gala fighting for a place in Europe next year.
Kewell came off the bench in the first half for Galatasaray and Genclerbirligi's Aussie pair Bruce Djite and James Troisi also joined the fray from the bench in the second half.
Kewell came close on the hour when he pushed a shot wide but he made up for it minutes later when he picked up a nicely threaded cross to fire through the Genclerbirligi defence and score the opener.
Kewell was again terrorising the Genclerbirligi defence in the 67th minute when he crossed to Baris Ozbek at the back post and Ozbek slotted in Gala's second goal to win the match 2-1.
Michael Petkovic's Sivasspor temporarily climbed back to the top of the Super Lig with a 2-1 win over Genclerbirligi OFTAS on Saturday but fell back into 2nd place after rivals Besiktas won on Sunday.
Vince Grella played the full shift for Blackburn against Chelsea on Sunday. During a period of sustained possession in the first half Grella unleashed a shot from the edge of the area but was denied by Frank Lampard.
The Rovers did not have enough fire power to contain Guus Hiddink's side as Chelsea went on to win 2-0 and Grella was lucky to stayon the pitch after another hefty tackle early in the match.
On Saturday Mark Viduka put the ball in the back of the net for Newcastle but it was Fulham's Mark Schwarzer whose performance again kept the Cottagers nose in front.
Fighting for Premier League survival, the Magpies were down 1-0 at halftime but five minutes into the second half Viduka had a header cleared off the line by Fulham midfielder Dickson Etuhu. From the resulting corner Viduka beat Schwarzer with a header into the back of the net only to be denied the equaliser when it was ruled Kevin Nolan had impeded Schwarzer.
Newcastle were reduced to ten men on the hour after a red card was handed to Sebastian Bassong and Viduka was substituted on 80 minutes. Schwarzer stopped Obafemi Martins with 12 minutes to go and then pulled off another fine save to deny Nicky Butt in injury time with Fulham holding onto a 1-0 win.
Newcastle's loss meant Richard Garcia's Hull leapfrogged Newcastle out of the bottom of three when they drew 1-1 with Bolton.
Hull were down 1-0 at half time but shortly after the break the Tigers scored on the counter when the Bolton defence failed to deal with a long ball from Garcia and Craig Fagan scored the equaliser.
Brad Jones did his best to save Middlesbrough's failing hopes of Premiership survival when Boro hosted Aston Villa. Jones denied Gabriel Agbonlahor by saving with his legs but he was beaten when John Carew punished Boro for failing to clear the ball.
The match finished 1-1 with Middlesbrough needing not only a win next weekend but results in other games to swing their way for them to avoid the drop.
Middlesbrough's draw however was Everton's gain as Tim Cahill's Blues skipped over Aston Villa to 5th place on the table after defeating West Ham 3-1.
Lucas Neill played the full shift for the Hammers however it was Cahill who grabbed the headlines as usual. In the 38th minute Tim Cahill was tripped as he burst into the penalty area. West Ham's James Tomkins was red carded for the trip and Everton equalised from the ensuing penalty before going on to win comfortably.
Scott McDonald's Celtic fell further behind Rangers in the Scottish Premier League after they drew 0-0 with Hibernian. McDonald had a chance to take the game in the final minute but pushed the ball wide from 14 yards.
The Hoops are now 2 points behind Rangers ahead of the final round of matches next weekend.
In Germany, Josh Kennedy played 84 minutes for Karlsruhe as they defeated Werder Bremen 3-1 to keep alive their hopes of remaining in the top division. Despite their position on the bottom of the Bundesliga, Karlsruhe can still claim a place in a relegation playoff if they win their final game next weekend and other results go their way.
If Karlsruhe do make the relegation playoff they could face Dario Vidosic's Nurnberg. Dario came off the bench at half time in the Bundesliga 2 for FC Nurnberg in their 0-0 draw with Hansa Rostock.
Scott Chipperfield was absent from FC Basel's squad but they still managed to defeat FC Zurich 3-1 in the top of the table clash for the Swiss Super League. At the other end of the table Mark Rudan played the full 90 minutes for FC Vaduz but he earned a yellow card as Vaduz were consigned to relegation with a 3-1 loss to Bellinzona.
Mark Bresciano played the full shift for Palermo in the Serie A as they defeated Lazio 2-0 to keep alive Palermo's hopes of a place in Europe next year.
Heading North, Shane Stefanutto played the full shift for Norwegian side Lyn Oslo but they were defeated 2-0 by Aalesunds FK. Ante Covic kept a clean sheet for Swedish leaders IF Elfsborg who defeated Halmstads BK 4-0. Luke Wilkshire also played the full shift in the Russian Premier League for Dinamo Moscow in a scoreless draw with Saturn Moscow.
