Gala coachFrank Rijkaard is a self-confessed fan of the Aussie legend, but it hasn't stopped him hiring a top quality challenger in Ivory Coast international Kader Keita to push Kewell all the way next season.

But Kewell says he's looking forward to the scrap and the new Turkish Super Lig campaign as well as another tilt at European honours.

Speaking to Galatasaray TV, the Australian said new faces, including Keita who, like Harry, can play on either wing or in a central attacking role, simply made for a strong squad and that competition was a positive thing.

"There is always competition," he said. "Last year I was competing with Arda (Turan). Competition is good. We want our players to be ambitious. Football is not an individual game, it is a team game."

Kewell also revealed that his new coach, Frank Rijkaard, had tried and failed to secure his services when the player was weighing up where to go after quitting Leeds United.

The Aussie star said Rijkaard had tried to persuade him to sign for Barcelona during his time in charge with the Spanish giants but he had his heart set on Liverpool.

"While he was at Barcelona, Rijkaard asked me to transfer there," he revealed. "It would have been a great event to play for Barcelona and to be part of that team.

"But I preferred Liverpool. I've rejected many bids to stay at Liverpool.

"It was my decision."

He added that he was lookiing forward to playing in Rikhaard's trademark 4-3-3 formation.

"I think 4-3-3 is a very good system," said Kewell. "Rijkaard successfully implemented this system at Barcelona.

"With everyone in the right position in the system, Galatasaray will be successful with it."

In other Kewell news, the Socceroo man has been named by Wish magazine as one of the smartest dressed men in Australia. It said Kewell's style was 'cool'.
