AUSSIE ROUND-UP: Harry Kewell came off the bench to score for Galatasaray in their UEFA Cup second round tie against Bordeaux this morning in a drama-filled tie.
Galatasary appointed former player Bulent Korkmaz as the new coach during the week and it was a terrible start for him when Bordeaux scored just eleven seconds into the match.
Kewell came off the bench 19 minutes into the game and just before half time Arda Turan equalised for the Turks. Two minutes later Harry Kewell smashed home from 25 yards out into the top corner of the net to take the lead into half time.
Galatasary took control of the match from that point and Arda Turan scored his second and the Turks third just after the hour.
Then Bordeaux scored two goals within a minute and it looked like the French team would progress on away goals but Gala fullback Sabri scored with seconds remaining to send Galatasary through to the last 16 winning 4-3.
Michael Beauchamp was in action for Danish side Aab for their UEFA Cup match against Deportivo La Coruna. Beauchamp played the full shift as Aab finished the job they started in the first round winning 3-1 on the night and 6-1 on aggregate.
Beauchamp and his Aalborg colleagues will now test themselves against money-laden Manchester City in the final 16 of the UEFA Cup but the European dream is over for two other Aussies.
An Australian reunion in the round of 16 was not to be after Manchester City eliminated Nathan Coe's FC Copenhagen to tee up the Aalborg tie.
Goalkeeper Coe was on the bench again as his team travelled to Manchester with the scores tied at 2-2 following the first leg.
Sadly for Coe, City won 2-1 on their home turf with Craig Bellamy scoring twice for Mark Hughes' men.
And former Perth Glory striker Nikita Rukavytsya was again on the bench for FC Twente as they faced French side Marseille at home.
A 1-0 home defeat meant the scores were level on aggregate with the tie eventually settled by a penalty shoot-out.
The French team emerged victorious from the spot, edging out Twente 7-6 in the shoot-out.
Richard Garcia came off the bench late in proceedings for Hull's FA Cup replay against Sheffield United and the Tigers progressed on the night 2-1.
On Wednesday night Brad Jones' Middlesbrough advanced in the FA Cup at the expense of Lucas Neill's West Ham.
Boro opened the scoring after five minutes and West Ham responded with a shot by Radoslav Kovac that Jones did well to save. Brad kept a clean sheet to see Boro through 2-0.
