The 33-year-old Socceroo, who is still searching for a club since leaving Melbourne Victory, was the subject of wild speculation after he was spotted at the ground on Wednesday.

Pulis confirmed that the one-time English Premier League star did attend the training session but dismissed suggestions the club was preparing to sign the Aussie on a free transfer.

Nor does it seem the visit was entirely impromptu.

"Harry turned up and I think there were crossed wires with his agent and with ourselves," Pulis told reporters.

"We thought he wanted to have a place to train and work, and we were more than obliged to look after him.

"I think Harry thought there was something more concrete at the end of it. It was crossed wires but we have sorted that out."

The club told Australian FourFourTwo that while Pulis was “more than happy” to help Kewell build up his fitness they did not expect to see him at training again.

Meanwhile the club indicated they are still in the market for players before the transfer window shuts, even if the Aussie does not feature in their plans.

"There are loads of stuff we are trying to do next week," Pulis said. "We will do our business as we normally do our business, with the players first and foremost and then we will let the press know afterwards."
