Speaking on the day his former youth protégé Kewell scored the winner for the Socceroos at the Asian Cup quarter finals, Hart told au.fourfourtwo.com that Kewell remains a special talent who represents the strong Aussie mentality.

"Aussie players have a good mentality - a strong mentality," said the former Portsmouth and Nottingham Forest manager who's also had a long career in youth development.

"And to come to England - it's a long way from home - and to develop in the standard of football you need to be really tough.

"It's been proved by the Australian players who've done well here."

Kewell and Brett Emerton arrived on Big Brother scholarships at Leeds in the mid-90s.Kewell was able to remain in England due to his parentage while Emerton returned to Australia before eventually making a stellar career in the EPL with Blakburn.

"I was absolutely amazed at the standard both those boys brought and of course Harry - it's a measure of what he did that he scored 17 goals from left back," said Hart.

"It was magnificent. "I was very, very lucky to get him. Really enjoyed working with Harry."

Hart was one of the coaching panel who picked Aussie teen Tom Rogic to join the Nike Academy as part of The Chance trials in London last week.

Australasia was the standout region at last week's trials in London with all four of the trialists - they also included Melbourne's talented Alon Blumgart, Sydney keeper Niko Matic and Kiwi defender  Tom Doyle - being selected in the final 32.

But it was ACT starlet and Futsal fan Rogic who walked away with the big prize - a one year full time contract at the Nike Acacemy based at Loughbrough University.

Rogic will almost certainly play against EPL players as the Nike Academy plan to play a series of games against other academies as well as EPL reserve sides.

"Tom's very skilful. He's a big boy with a big presence and he stands out," said Hart. "

We're just hoping that with full-time training and getting some physicality into him and developing his undoubted skills, we're keeping our fingers crossed he might just attract  attention of clubs in England."

Rogic, who went into the trials with a back injury and was played as a deeper lying midfielder in the final 11 v 11 game at MK Dons, fought through the pain and that too impressed Hart.

"If he felt any pain, we hadn't noticed it," said Hart. "He's very low management and looks after himself. He's been a credit."

Hart - who revealed he'd been offered the Newcastle Jets coaching job before it was offered and subsequently accepted by Richard Money in 2005 - said that he'd be open to offers from Australia in the future.

He added: "I always been in touch with Australian players. I like them."
