Central Coast Mariners midfielder Wout Brama has escaped with a two-match ban for a potentially career-ending tackle that sickened onlookers.
Brama lunged in with his studs on the shin of injury-plagued Brisbane Roar striker, Corey Gameiro, buckling the player's leg as it took the weight.
The incident in the 94th minute of Roar's 2-1 win over Central Coast Mariners on Saturday, cast a pall over the game and shocked commentators and fans.
Straight red. Ouch. Could've snapped his leg in two. #CCMvBRI. 4 weeks out easily. #ALeague. pic.twitter.com/LucXgE0wA6

Brama was initially given a yellow card, upgraded to a red after consultation with the VAR.
Fox Sports pundit and former Socceroo Mark Bosnich called on the Dutchman to be banned for six weeks.
But the Independent Match Review Panel obviously saw it differently, ruling on Monday that the 31-year-old should serve the mandatory match suspension of one game plus one additional match for "serious foul play."
Reaction to the leniency of the penalty was swift and negative.
You need a little luck in life, and Wout Brama gets a dose today.

2 games for Gamiero tackle.
@CCMariners midfielder Wout Brama gets two week ban for a potentially leg-breaking tackle on @CoreyGameiro - I find that extraordinarily lenient. Sends a terrible message, especially when Avram Papadopoulos got seven for spitting

That's as bad as you'll see from Wout Brama. Lovely bloke, good player. Disgraceful moment. #CCMvBRI

Brama apologised to the 24-year-old in the tunnel after the game.
Gameiro, who has undergone three knee reconstructions, said he was reduced to tears by the tackle, terrified he would be sidelined again.
Gameiro reponds to horror tackle: I was terrified!
Wout the hell?! Sickening tackle on Gameiro condemned
Elsewhere, Western Sydney Wanderers young gun, Keanu Baccus, will serve the mandatory one match ban for denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity.
Baccus brought down Joel Chianese in the box and was sent off in the sixth minute of Perth Glory's 3-1 win over Wanderers on Sunday.
