The Football Association confirmed on Monday a friendly with the European champions had been personally requested by coach Fabio Capello, but they are keen to avoid a return to Madrid, mindful of the racism problems England experienced last time they visited the Spanish capital four years ago.

However, Henry, who has experienced racial abuse several times during his career, believes that should not affect the game.

"You have to stop violence, but I don't see why it can't be played," said the France forward. "Supporters only have to be animated without insulting anyone.

"A game of football is a game of football and nothing more, without political or religious opinions.

"It is a question of education and there are some people who don't have any."
