ASTON Villa's Australian midfielder Chris Herd says he is looking forward to the prospect of linking up with compatriot Brett Holman after he joined the English club this off-season.
Holman has joined Villa from AZ Alkmaar and Herd told the club's website he believes the Socceroo's versatility will be a major positive for the club who finished the 2011-12 season down in 16th.
"I'm really forward to working with Brett and playing with him next season. I don't know him personally but I know he's a great player. He's proven that with AZ Alkmaar and Australia," Herd, 23, said.
"He will definitely bring good things to the club. He's an attacking player and he can play anywhere - up front, wide, even in midfield - he's very versatile.
"But he's very good wherever he plays. He's had a good career so far and I'm sure that will continue with Villa."
Herd, who made 20 appearances for Villa last term, added he hopes the team can improve under new boss Paul Lambert.
"We are certainly looking to have a better season as a team and get pushing up that table. I want to help the team. And I want to progress as a player and better my game," he said.
"We are a tight group. We're all friends. We plan to stick together, work hard as a group and do the business for the manager."
