The two-time Socceroo only joined Gillingham in October, after terminating his contract with Perth Glory for family reasons.

Herd, 28, made 14 appearances in all competitions this season for the Gills, with injury problems hindering his first-team chances.

It's unlikely Herd will seek an Australian return due to the aforementioned family reasons.

The Perth-born utility hasn't played for Australia since October 2014 in a friendly against Qatar.

Herd has previously spent time at Aston Villa and Chesterfield, with loan spells at Port Vale, Wycombe, Lincoln City, Bolton and Wigan.
