A fortnight ago, defender Josip Simunic told his club's fans that eight wins from the final 12 matches would do it for Hertha - and they have moved a step closer to fulfilling his prediction by winning their last two, including yesterday's 1-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen.

Simunic is standing by his claims, saying Hertha now only need six wins, and his team-mates agree.

"I would be lying if I said I have not been dreaming about becoming German champion," said Arne Friedrich.

"I don't think it is ever going to be as easy to do it as is this year."

Simunic added that "anything is possible when you believe in it".

The fans seem to believe too a season-high 59,000 turning out at the Olympiastadion yesterday.

They witnessed an unexpected sight, too - coach Lucien Favre dancing in the centre-circle to celebrate victory. He is unlikely to win any awards on the dance floor, but fans may see his party piece again if his team keeps winning.

"I was catastrophic, but I just could not say no," said the Swiss coach.

"There is a bit of euphoria in the air, and you can feel it when you go into the city too."

Despite that atmosphere, Leverkusen coach Bruno Labbadia has backed Hertha to keep their heads and finish the job.

"Congratulations to Hertha," he said.

"With such a calmness, you can become German champions."
