Heskey was Newcastle Jets' marquee signing between 2012 and 2014, and was a marketing tool for the league alongside Alessandro Del Piero and Shinji Ono.

The former Liverpool striker starred in his first season, scoring nine goals before finding the net just once in a poor second year with the club.

Heskey was in Australia last month for a Liverpool v Manchester United 'legends' game, and spoke highly of the country and the A-League.

And in a recent interview with AskFans, Heskey said he would encourage more players to try their luck down under.

"100%. I’ve been asked a couple of times by players and I’ve got nothing but good things to stay about it," the 39-year-old said.

"The standard was really high as well."

However, Heskey says the only downside is the weather, with the A-League being played across the summer months and in turn soaring temperatures.

He added: "The hurdle you would have to get over is the weather and getting used to that weather.

"I used to be waking up in 30 degrees (Celsius) every morning.

"But whenever anyone ever asks me I always have good things to say about it."
