ENGLAND manager Fabio Capello today admitted that his side must win their Euro 2012 qualifier in Wales next March if they are to get their faltering campaign back on track.
Here, Press Association Sport'sPaul Hirst looks at the previous encounters where England have come unstuck against their local rivals in Wales.
:: Wales 4-1 England Home International Championship, May 17, 1980
Wales secured a memorable first home victory over England for 25 years with a crushing win at Wrexham. Paul Mariner gave England the lead at the Racecourse Ground before local hero Mickey Thomas and striker Ian Walsh put Wales ahead at the break. Leighton James then added a third before Phil Thompson's own goal rounded off a miserable night for Ron Greenwood's men.
:: Wales 1-0 England, Home International Championship, May 2, 1984
Wales' love affair with Mark Hughes began on this day 26 years ago when the young striker took just 17 minutes to mark his international debut with a goal, calmly flicking a low header past Peter Shilton in Wrexham. Hughes went on to earn another 71 caps, scoring another 15 goals in the process before returning to manage his country in a largely successful five-year spell.
:: Wales 2-1 England, international friendly, October 22, 1955
Wales' current caretaker manager Brian Flynn was just 10 days old when Swansea winger Cliff Jones scored the winner in a 2-1 victory against Walter Winterbottom's outfit at Ninian Park. Jones, who went on to play more than 300 times for Tottenham, described the winner in Cardiff as the best of his 25-year career.
:: Wales 4-2 England, Home International Championship, October 22, 1938
Goals from Barrie Jones, Idris Hopkins and a Dai Astley brace helped the hosts to a resounding victory over England, who had Stanley Matthews and Tommy Lawton on the scoresheet. The victory was not quite enough to seal the championship for the Dragons though, with England pipping them to the title on goal difference.
:: Wales 2-1 England, Home International Championship, October 17, 1936
Three years before war brought a temporary suspension to the Home International Championship, Wales began their successful pursuit of the trophy by beating England 2-1 thanks to goals from Pat Glover and Seymour Morris.
