The newly-appointed manager has signed a contract running until the next European Championships in 2016, and recorded a 1-0 victory against Norway in his first match in charge on Saturday.

England have failed to live up to high expectations in recent tournaments and suffered considerable disruption when Fabio Capello resigned in February, following the Football Association's decision to remove the captaincy from John Terry.

But while Hodgson insisted he is not writing off his squad's chances at Euro 2012, the former West Brom and Fulham boss did admit he has one eye on future tournaments as well.

"I am looking beyond the Euros. The fact is I signed a contract to do this job over the coming years, so I have my sights firmly fixed on the future," he told The Daily Telegraph.

"I also want to do well in the Euros with the team and I will try to get the team as well-organised and well-prepared as I can.

"But I am not prepared to make the Euros the be-all and end-all."

England have already begun their search for accommodation at World Cup 2014 in Brazil, in response to FIFA's request that nations submit their top three choices of hotels and training centres by August 1.

The FA have finalised a shortlist after scouting bases over the past year, and Hodgson will consider the options after a visit following the European Championships.

The preference of Rio de Janeiro will be a popular choice among fans and players' families, while Belo Horizonte is also a possibility due to the quality of training grounds.

Sao Paulo was ruled out on climactic grounds and Santos' facilities based on accommodation issues.
