The Jets downed Brisbane 1-0 in their last match, thanks to a Hoffman goal, and recorded a derby win over Central Coast and a draw with defending champions Sydney FC since the start of 2018.

But the 28-year-old, who has thrived in a conversion from fullback to a forward role, is not getting carried away with recent results.

"I'm happy to play up front at the moment and enjoying my football," he said.

"There's plenty of good service and I think you see that right from the get-go this season, the way we want to play it's very aggressive going forward.

"To be in the front third and to take those opportunities has been enjoyable at the moment. But there's plenty of hard work ahead.

"We haven't been playing the best football, I don't think, in the last two games. When we look ahead to Saturday we want to make sure we start strong and play good, quality football in the front third like we were a few weeks ago."

 


 

Newcastle host Wellington at home on Saturday. The Phoenix remain anchored to the bottom of the table but Hoffman, who has been impressive for the Jets this eason, believes the Kiwi club are still a dangerous opponent.

"I don't think the table resembles the football they've been playing, especially in the last few weeks they've had some good results but they've been unlucky not to climb the table," he said.

"They've made some quality signings, not just with Nathan Burns but also with (Matija) Lujic the Serbian midfielder.

"For us they're players we have to take into account for when we prepare... that's a tricky opponent for Saturday. We'll give them all the respect they deserve."
