SOCCEROOS coach Holger Osieck says Mitchell Langerak's brilliant debut for Borussia Dortmund convinced him the young shot-stopper was ready for international football against Germany.
Langerak will get his opportunity for the Socceroos in the much anticipated World Cup rematch with the Germans, getting a call-up to the 17-man Australian squad ahead of the likes of Adam Federici, Brad Jones and Eugene Galekovic.
The 22-year-old is the second choice keeper at league-leading Dortmund but made a stunning debut in his side's 3-1 win over powerhouse Bayern Munich last month.
That performance caught the eye of Osieck who had no hesitation in promoting the former Melbourne Victory custodian for the March 29 clash.
Langerak is the only uncapped player to be included in Osieck's squad, which features 15 players who were part of the Asian Cup squad with big guns included Tim Cahill, Harry Kewell, Lucas Neill all named.
"Mitchell Langerak impressed me in the top game in Germany when he played against Bayern Munich," Osieck said on Tuesday.
"He was a candidate for the camp anyway then after that performance I thought why not give him the chance to smell the air with the Socceroos.
"He will also get the opportunity to be together with Mark Schwarzer who is a great teacher.
"I saw that in the in tournament (Asian Cup) recently that he passed on his experience and it's a great opportunity for Mitch to work together with Mark."
Federici was widely considered No.2 to Mark Schwarzer before the Asian Cup, but pulled out of the tournament to concentrate on his club football with English Championship side Reading.
While a recent knee injury has seen him sidelined and ruled him out of the Germany match, Osieck said Federici is still very much in his thoughts down the track.
"Recent history shows that he (Federici) didn't play for his club as well, it was because of an injury, he twisted his knee, and he had been out for a number of games," Osieck said.
"Therefore I thought it would be better for him to get back and be healthy again and then down the road he definitely will be part of our group as well.
"We are in a very fortunate position; we have a number of excellent goalkeepers, so there won't be any problem to make the right choice."
The upcoming friendly is the fourth time Australia will take on Germany in a full international and the first time since the 4-0 drubbing at last year's World Cup in South Africa.
Osieck, who admitted he was excited about the prospect of coaching against his home country, challenged his side to shrug aside the memory of that match and have no fear about taking on the world's no.3 ranked nation.
"It is not related to the German game, whatever game I play with my team we want to get a result, we are not going there to just play and maybe have a good time against our respective opponent," Osieck said.
"I know how difficult it is to win in Germany but we are not going into the game and saying 'oh we hope it goes well and I don't know'.
"We should be confident. The attitude is important."
As well as the 17-man squad for the Germnay match, Osieck also picked a squad of 22 European-based youngsters to undertake a training camp prior to the match, with one standout to be included in the final squad for the friendly.
