SOCCEROO coach Holger Osieck has left out David Carney from his 22-man squad to face Iraq later this month, while Sasa Ognenovski misses out through injury.
Osieck has made four changes to the squad which travelled to Jordan on September 11, when the Socceroos lost 2-1 to leave them winless in Group B in the fourth round of World Cup qualifying.
Carney, without a club following his release from Bunyodkor of Uzbekistan, has been dropped, while the trio of Ognenovski, Heracles' Jason Davidson and Reading goalkeeper Adam Federici are all injured.
Melbourne Victory's Mark Milligan has been recalled and is likely to start in the centre of defence, while Matt McKay of Busan IPark is likely to shift to left-back.
Liverpool goalkeeper Brad Jones, a late call-up for the Jordan game, and Tommy Oar of Utrecht have also been included for the clash against Iraq in Doha on October 16.
The encounter shapes as a must-win for the Socceroos, who are on two points and behind Japan (10 points), Jordan (four) and Iraq (two) in the group.
This will be the eighth meeting between the Socceroos and Iraq at senior men’s international level.
The most recent meeting was in the quarter-finals of the Asian Cup Qatar 2011 where the Socceroos won1-0 courtesy of a Harry Kewell goal in extra time.
The Socceroos are currently ranked 25th in the FIFA World Rankings while Iraq are 78th.
The Socceroos are currently in third position of Group B with draws against Oman (0-0) and Japan (1-1) and a loss against Jordan (1-2) in their opening matches of the final round of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Asian Qualifiers whilst Iraq are in fourth place of Group B after draws with Jordan (1-1) and Oman (1-1) and a loss to Japan (0-1).
