SOCCEROOS coach Holger Osieck admitted he was "surprised" by the way his Next Gen youngsters performed in the 2-1 win over Korea tonight.
Goals from Nikita Rukavytsya and Robbie Cornthwaite turned around a 1-0 scoreline to give Australia their first win in Korea for 40 years, with both sides fielding experimental line-ups.
The match saw game time for the new look Socceroos with Ryan McGowan, James Holland, Michael Thwaite and Tommy Oar joining Cornthwaite and Rukavytsya in the starting line-up.
Aziz Behich, Tom Rogic, Eli Babalj all came off the bench to join the attack while Mathew Leckie also enjoyed a late cameo role.
And it was the introduction of the fresh blood - long demanded by fans - which saw the tide finally turn in Australia's favour.
But after the match Osieck admitted he was surprised at the impact of the new faces.
"I think it was good to win on the road," he said. "But when you look at the team, I am very surprised by how well the boys did.
"Not only the ones who got their first cap today, but even those who don't normally have much playing time.
"Ryan McGowan at right fullback, Michael Thwaite had a great game, Robbie Cornthwaite was amazing - how he got into the team, he was a call in at late notice because we had some players injured.
"He got noticed and he did extremely well, I am very pleased for him he is a good boy. Then James Holland played his first full 90 minutes since I've been here and I think, again, excellent performance.
"Then Tommy Oar and everybody - so I am very happy, I'm pleased for those boys."
But Osieck was not making any promises of regular first team places on the Road to Brazil 2014.
"I think we saw a lot of very positive elements that gives us hope for the future," he said. "We have to be realistic - the qualifiers are of a different calibre.
"But the young boys showed some promising aspects. We have to concentrate on two different aspects - development on one side, and qualifying on the other. In a way, I have to combine it.
"We are going to have a couple more friendlies on that level that will give me the opportunity to play these guys so that they get more and more used to the different pace and pressure on the international level.
"All in all, I am very pleased with what I saw tonight and we are going to build on it."
