HOLGER Osieck is blending the old with the new as raw recruits join several who are returning to the Socceroos after long absences for the friendlies against France and Canada.
Osieck came in for fierce criticism for his management style and selection policy after the 6-0 thumping at the hands of Brazil earlier this month.
He has moved to shake things up - but cpontroversially it sees the return of David Carney to the side after just a few games for his MLS club NY Red Bulls after almost a year out the game.
Veteran keeper Mark Schwarzer has made way to give former Mariners youngster Mat Ryan and ex-Victory star Matthew Langerak a run in the two friendlies.
Osieck has also called up 20-year old Jackson Irvine for the first time after starting in all three of the Young Socceroos matches at the U20 World Cup in Turkey in June this year.
And Oliver Bozanic, Mathew Leckie and Nikita Rukavytsya all are recalled after sterling performances for their clubs recently.
It's Bozanic's second call-up to the Socceroos squad after being selected for his first ever squad in August 2009 when the Socceroos played Ireland in Limerick.
Leckie and Rukavytsya both return after last appearing for the Socceroos against Korea in November last year and also scoring for their club FSV Frankfurt last weekend.
Jason Davidson also returns and Dario Vidosic gets named for the first time since his move from Adelaide United to FC Sion in Switzerland.
Tim Cahill and Luke Wilkshire have been included after they both missed the recent match against Brazil due to injury.
Lucas Neill is set to equal Peter Wilson’s record of 60 matches as Socceroos captain should he lead the Socceroos out against both France and Canada.
The international friendly against France will be played at the Parc de Princes, Paris on Friday 11 October 2013 (kick-off at 9:00pm CEST (6:00am AEDT, Saturday 12 October) whilst the match against Canada will be played at Craven Cottage, London on Tuesday 15 October at 8:00pm BST (6:00am AEDT, Wednesday 16 October).
This will be the fourth match between France and Australia at senior men’s international level and the ninth match between Canada and Australia.
