YOUNG Australian midfielder James Holland has officially left Dutch leaders AZ Alkmaar and put pen to paper on a contract with Austria Vienna.
The 22-year-old, who has five Socceroos caps to his name, has signed an 18-month contract with the Violets with the option of a further two years after a successful trial in Vienna.
Holland, who arrived at Alkmaar in January 2009 but never made a first-team appearance for the club, leaves on a free transfer.
Austria Vienna board member and former manager Thomas Parits told the club's website: "Coach Ivica Vastic has issued him a very good report from the trial.
"He has left behind a lasting impression in the short time he was here and his references are very promising.
"He is physically capable, understands the game and the technical pre-requisites for his position. He is a real gain for us."
Holland joined AZ from A-League club Newcastle Jets and also spent time on loan at Sparta Rotterdam on loan in the second half of the 2010-11 season.
