Blackpool boss Ian Holloway believes it is still "a huge ask" for his team to avoid relegation this season.
The Seasiders continued the remarkable progress they have made in their maiden Barclays Premier League campaign with last night's 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Bloomfield Road.
The result means Holloway's side have taken 28 points from their opening 20 league fixtures and are seven points clear of the drop zone in ninth place.
But asked if he accepted that Blackpool now had an outstanding chance of survival, the manager said: "No, not in this division.
"I've looked up how many points people get towards the end and they all have a good run at it, so you need those points as quickly as possible.
"Four more wins will give us 40 points and we have 18 games to do it, but it's still a huge ask - look at the fixtures."
The addition of some new recruits in the transfer window should boost Blackpool's cause and Holloway has confirmed he is interested in signing Barnsley winger Adam Hammill.
Hammill has scored eight goals for the Tykes so far this season and his impressive performances in the npower Championship have led to him being linked with a host of clubs.
Holloway today spoke of his admiration for the 22-year-old, who had a spell on loan from Liverpool at Bloomfield Road in 2008-09, although he stressed that there is some way to go before any deal for Hammill might be concluded.
"There are lots of people who would be interested in Adam Hammill," Holloway said.
"His agent has done a good job and there is a clause in his contract which guarantees you can get him.
"We're not the only ones who know that, but we like the boy and we've had him on loan here.
"But he's not my player and there are a lot of things that have got to happen before he is.
"There are a lot of other clubs who want him, so the boy is in a great situation."
Holloway has also once again emphasised that he views a bid of £3.5million for Seasiders captain Charlie Adam - reportedly made by Aston Villa - to be derisory.
"I don't believe it is right for him to move at the moment," Holloway said.
"The offers we are getting and the clubs that are asking about him, I believe he is better than that, with the greatest respect to them.
"£3.5million for him? You're taking the mickey out of us, it is an absolutely disgraceful offer.
"Why is it in the paper and why are they talking about it when they are below us?"
Meanwhile, Holloway has jumped to the defence of Liverpool forward Ryan Babel, who issued an apology and was charged with improper conduct by the Football Association having posted a picture and comments about referee Howard Webb on Twitter following Sunday's FA Cup defeat at Manchester United.
Babel sent out a mocked-up picture of Webb wearing a United shirt and wrote: "And they call him one of the best referees? That's a joke. SMH (shaking my head)."
Holloway, who admits he does not understand how Twitter works, said: "I thought it was funny - I thought the ref looked really cool in a Man United shirt to be honest!"
"I saw him in the toilet at the match I went to the other night at Stockport.
"I said 'come on, what sort of game did you have against Man United? Was that a sending off and was that a penalty?'
"We had a bit of a laugh about it, but to pick on young Ryan Babel for that - how can you fine him for that? It's rubbish."
