Former Socceroo Brett Holman says Brisbane Roar’s off-field issues didn’t weigh on his mind before he decided to join the club on a long-term deal.
The 32-year-old attacking midfielder became Roar’s fourth major off-season signing late last week amid another period of uncertainty at the club.
Roar managing director and would-be-owner Daniel Cobb was sacked last month, following an alleged rift with the club’s coaching staff and issues with players and staff paid late.
Ex-Aston Villa and AZ Alkmaar man Holman, who joins Brisbane after three years in the UAE with Emirates and Al Nasr, said the issues weren’t a factor for him.
“Not at all. As a footballer sometimes those circumstances come up,” Holman said.
“I’ve been in situations in the past in Holland, for example, where the owner has been bankrupt.
“The most important thing is the technical staff. It’s about the stuff we know best and that’s on the field.
“As long as the players stay focused, that’s the most important thing.”

Holman knows coach John Aloisi and football operations manager Craig Moore well, with the trio playing together at the 2004 Athens Olympics as well with the Socceroos numerous times.
Sydney-born Holman said Aloisi’s ability to get the best out of the Brisbane players amid similar issues last season where they went close to the premiership, was a positive.
“You saw how in difficult circumstances how well Brisbane were playing, that was attractive,” Holman said.
The new Roar recruit won’t be ready to play in Brisbane’s pre-season clash with Central Coast on Saturday.
Aloisi said he was hopeful Holman would partake in one or two friendlies prior to their opening A-League fixture against Melbourne Victory on Friday 7 October.
“I’d like to use Brett in one of the friendly games,” Aloisi said.
“We’ll just see how Brett is in the next few days and how he pulls up after a week training with us.
“We’ve still got time. He’s used to having shorter pre-seasons anyway, in Europe you virtually only have a six-to-seven week pre-season.
“His body will be used to that. Hopefully we can use him in one or two friendly games and be ready for the start of the season.”

Holman added he was confident he’d be fully available for selection for the season opener.
“Age and those sort of things haven’t even played on my mind,” Holman said.
“We’ll have a good look at where I am physically the next week or two.
“Thankfully we’ve still got a good four-plus weeks before our season opener.
“With some good guidance and technical and physical stuff, I should be raring to go.”
