AUSSIES ABROAD: Socceroo Brett Holman was in action on Thursday night for AZ Alkmaar but powerless to prevent them bowing out of the Dutch KNVB Beker after a 1-0 loss to Ajax.
Holman started and played 73 minutes of the clash, but AZ were beaten by Miralem Sulejmani's first-half goal.
Pontus Wernbloom was sent off in the second-half for AZ as they crashed out at the last 16 stage.
Fellow Aussie James Holland was not in action for AZ.
Elsewhere, Nathan Burns was 57th-minute substitute as AEK Athens cruised to a 4-0 win at Larissa in the Greek Cup.
AEK are now in the quarter-finals.
