The former Newcastle United defender fluffed his lines, missing a dead sitter in the 9th minute as Wellington Phoenix pushed Brisbane Roar for an early lead.

The game at Suncorp Stadium ended goalless, shining the spotlight even brighter on that miss from a metre out with nothing but a wide open net to aim for.

It's already a contender for A-league Miss of the Season, and is enjoying a healthy run on social media.

Taylor explained to Fox Sports: "(Tom Doyle's) hit a great strike, it’s popped off the keeper, came at the back stick and, yeah, it’s come off the ankle, straight off onto the side of the post.

"I was disappointed with that...(we) missed some good chances."

But away from home the 32-year-old, who put in a Man of the Match performance, was happy with the  graft.

It was a great result for the combative Nix, and gives them four points from the opening two games - one of their best starts to an A-League campaign

"First half we had some good chances, myself as well, but I think all through the game we showed the character – everybody put a great shift in," Taylor added.

The Englishman was one of a host of players brought in by new coach Mark Rudan to turn the Kiwi outfit's fortunes around.

"It’s obviously been a very tough pre-season massive changes at the football club with Mark coming in," he said.

"It’s a new era for the football club. The past few years it’s been very difficult but we want to change that, we want to create history this year."
