TOTTENHAM midfielder Tom Huddlestone admits he could have left White Hart Lane before Harry Redknapp's arrival as manager sparked a revival for the club and himself.
Huddlestone, 21, started one game for former boss Juande Ramos this season but has been in all four of Redknapp's line-ups, providing a shield for the defence.
His lack of opportunities under Ramos made the England Under-21 international consider his future.
"You always think that if you're not playing," he said.
"Under the previous manager, I had started only one game out of 12, which for me was very disappointing.
"But since Harry came in, it's a fresh start for everyone and I have played four out of four and we have done well, so hopefully it will continue.
"We knew we were still good players. We didn't become bad overnight and everyone has put aside our bad start to the season."
Huddlestone had a hand in Darren Bent's three goals against Dinamo Zagreb this week, and added another himself when he met a corner with a volley 30 yards out.
It was a training-ground routine that Redknapp has been suggested. The new Spurs boss sees potential in Huddlestone, who was famously once compared by former Spurs boss Martin Jol to Franz Beckenbauer.
"Tom's got everything," Redknapp said. "He's such a fantastic passer of the ball.
"He's got great feet and terrific ability. He's got to keep believing how good he can be because he has it all to be a top player."
Redknapp is set to bring Joe Jordan onto his backroom staff after the 56-year-old Scot left Portsmouth.
Following the appointment of assistant manager Tony Adams as Redknapp`s replacement at Pompey, Jordan has departed from Fratton Park.
Recruiting players in January may be less straightforward for Redknapp as his players are giving him a selection headache.
Redknapp is reluctant to use Luka Modric in midfield but wants him in the team as a support striker, meaning Roman Pavlyuchenko and Bent are competing for one place.
Fraizer Campbell, who came on against Dinamo, is also an option.
Spurs fans continue to sing the name of Jermain Defoe in hope of the striker returning, but Redknapp insisted: "I think we have three strikers who can do the job.
"There's competition for places up front. Darren and Roman are both scoring goals and Fraizer Campbell showed terrific enthusiasm when he came on.
"You can see why he did so well at Hull last season and Fergie (Sir Alex Ferguson) turned down a £7million offer for him. He's got something.
"It's difficult playing with two strikers because Modric is such a great footballer that you need to play.
"If you play two up and him behind you can't balance your team up behind him. It's a balancing act. With one up and Modric behind it is working for us at the moment."
Meanwhile, Tottenham could be in trouble with UEFA after Dinamo fans lit flares at the away end of White Hart Lane.
Supporters of the Croatian league leaders clashed with stewards and fans in the first half of the UEFA Cup match, and there were five arrests for public-order offences on the night.
UEFA, Europe's governing body, will wait for the report of the match delegate before deciding if Spurs will be punished, with a fine being most likely if they take action.
