Heidelberg United 1 (Saso Alexovski)
@ Kingston Heath Soccer Complex
BENTLEIGH Greens secured a 1-1 draw against the high-flying Heidelberg United in a fiery clash between two of the league’s in-form sides.
A goal from striker Stuart Nicholson nine minutes from the end helped the Greens extend their unbeaten run to six, albeit by collecting a draw for the fifth game in succession.
Saso Alexovski had given the Bergers a 65th-minute lead after an even first half, before the game turned with two red cards soon after.
Bergers star Osagie Ederaro and Bentleigh’s Jack Webster were both sent off, but Nicholson popped up to give the Greens a point.
Richmond 1 (Michael Ferrante)
Hume City 3 (Richard Cardozo, Andy Vlahos, Atilla Ofli)
@ Kevin Bartlett Reserve
HUME City continued on their merry way with a comfortable 3-1 win over Richmond.
Despite playing almost an hour with 10 men, City stretched their unbeaten run to five with the win.
Richard Cardozo and Andy Vlahos had given Hume a 2-0 lead after 33 minutes, before defender Fabio Dilizia was sent off for a deliberate handball that handed the Eagles a lifeline through a penalty.
Michael Ferrante stepped up and duly converted for his fifth goal of the season.
But the Eagles failed to make any further inroads and City striker Atilla Ofli restored the two-goal buffer four minutes into the second half.
Green Gully Cavaliers 1 (Mathew Sanders)
Oakleigh Cannons 1 (James Downey)
@ Green Gully Reserve
OAKLEIGH Cannons kept hold of top spot after a 1-1 draw with champions Green Gully.
The Cavaliers pulled a goal back through Mathew Sanders, who is quickly becoming a super-sub, but were left to share the spoils.
James Downey had set the Cannons on their way after 40 minutes, but Sanders came on to score as a substitute for the second week in a row in the 74th minute.
Gully remain outside the top five despite a five-match unbeaten streak.
St Albans Saints 0
Dandenong Thunder 3 (Liam Kearney, Mathew Theodore, Luke Sherbon)
@ Churchill Reserve
DANDENONG Thunder inflicted more misery on St Albans with a comfortable 3-0 win.
Goals from three of their impressive midfield quartet sent them on their way against the winless Saints.
Liam Kearney opened the scoring in the first half before Mathew Theodore and Luke Sherbon completed the rout in the second.
It keeps the Thunder in the top five, while the Saints remain anchored to the bottom of the table, without a win and nine points from safety.
Melbourne Knights 2 (Jacob Colosimo)
Northcote City 2 (James Kalifatidis, Kristian Konstantinidis)
@ Knights Stadium
NORTHCOTE City twice came from behind to secure a 2-2 draw against the Melbourne Knights.
Knights forward Jacob Colosimo put his side ahead twice in the encounter, but they were eventually forced to share the spoils with their more fancied rivals.
City attacker James Kalifatidis cancelled out Colosimo’s opener before the Knights man put his team ahead for the second time in the 52nd minute.
But again Northcote hit back as Kristian Konstantinidis squared things up and that is how they remained.
The draw was enough to move the Knights out of the drop zone, while Northcote have slipped out of the top five.
South Melbourne 1 (Jesse Krncevic)
Springvale White Eagles 0
@ John Cain Memorial Park
STRIKER Jesse Krncevic returned to the scoresheet as a new-look South Melbourne broke a four-game winless run with a 1-0 win over the Springvale White Eagles.
Krncevic hit the only goal of the game on the half hour as signings Jean-Charles Dubois, Daniel Dragicevic, Junior de Camargo and Tom Matthews were all handed their debuts.
