Huntelaar's name has cropped up regularly in transfer speculation in recent seasons without the 24-year-old making a move away from the Amsterdam Arena.

However, after scoring 34 league goals with Ajax last season, the time seems ripe for the Holland international to leave his home country, with the player revealing the Bernabeu is a favoured destination.

"I do not know at the moment where my future lies," he told Spanish newspaper Marca.

"It is true that there has been alot of talk that Real Madrid are interested in signing me and that would thrilling for me because they are such a great club."

Last week Huntelaar's agent Arnold Oosterveer was forced to rebuff claims the player had already signed a contract with Real following a newspaper report linking him to the club.

Oosterveer told PA Sport at the time that there had been "no contact with Real Madrid or any other club".

A week has since passed and Huntelaar confirmed he had still not heard anything regarding a potential move to the Spanish champions, adding: "I have not heard anything from them at the moment.

"The one thing I can say for certain is that I am an Ajax player at the moment and if Real Madrid or anther club want to sign me then they must talk with my club first."

Huntelaar is currently on national team duty with Holland at Euro 2008 where he has been training alongside Real squad members Ruud van Nistelrooy, Wesley Sneijder and Arjen Robben.

And the striker revealed he had spoken to them about their experiences in the Spanish capital.

"I know quite a lot about the club because my Dutch team-mates, Van Nistelrooy, Robben and Sneijder, are all there," he said.

"They have told me that the club is incredible, that the city is fantastic, and that playing in the Bernabeu is something special.

"Real Madrid is one of the biggest clubs in the world and every player aspires to play for the biggest and best and to win trophies."
