Huntelaar underwent an MRI scan today to determine the extent of the injury he sustained during the 5-2 Eredivisie win against Sparta Rotterdam yesterday.

The 25-year-old Holland striker opened the scoring but then turned his ankle in the 36th minute with the score at 2-0 and had to be taken off immediately.

"Huntelaar is out for at least six weeks," read an Ajax statement.

"The seriousness of the injury became clear on Monday during an MRI scan in the hospital."

Despite being plagued by injuries this season, Ajax moved level on points with AZ Alkmaar and NAC Breda at the Eredivisie summit on Sunday.

Huntelaar joins Maarten Stekelenburg, Mitchell Donald, Ismail Aissati, Dennis Gentenaar, Jan-Arie van der Heijden, Dario Cvitanich and Jeffrey Sarpong in the treatment room.
