Returning to the comfort of family and familiar surrounds has paid dividends for the 24-year-old.

After scoring in the FFA Cup last week, the exciting winger is poised to make his A-League come back against the Jets.

And after a miserable 12 months waiting for his broken leg to heal, Ibini says a phone call from his former coach and mentor helped him decide to come home.

“It wasn’t tough to come back at all,” he said “Once I spoke to Arnie it was pretty easy to come back it was also being close to the family again and I know how good the medical stuff at Sydney is. They know me as well and I knew that they would be able to get me back on the field rather quickly.

“Seeing as I got injured as soon as I got over there and I hadn’t really played, they didn’t really know what I could do. And having such a long term injury they maybe though ok we’ll see how it goes.

“But I’m back on the field after four and a half months since I’ve been back so for me it was a very easy decision and it’s panned out amazing so far. I’ve come back to Sydney I’ve gotten over my injury now and I’m looking forward to the rest of the season.”

Ahead of this weekend’s game against the Jets, Arnold said Ibini was in contention to make his A-League return

“Bernie is training the house down,” he said. “He’s in consideration for Saturday mainly because of his impact off the bench and what he can give us.

And while Ibini is not ready to play a full match yet, the one-time Socceroo says once he reaches full fitness he will return to the field a stronger player.

“Obviously it’s going to take time before I play 90,” he said. “I’m still a few weeks away but I would like to be involved in every game going forward and then by the end of the season I would like to have gotten back to my best and be even better than I was before.

“It is going to be important that I don’t have to feel like I need to rush it. Obviously being out for so long it is going to take time to get back to my best, you can’t really say a time period when that is going to happen. It’s going to be tough and some games are going to be better than others.

“But look I can’t wait to be back on the pitch and enjoying what I do and each week, I take it as it comes and I think each week will help to get better and better.”
