Socceroos youngster Chris Ikonomidis is confident he can make a big impact in the Danish Superliga after a promising debut on Tuesday morning.
Ikonomidis joined AGF on loan from Lazio on deadline day earlier this month and made his debut as a 66th minute substitute in the 3-1 win over Nordsjaelland.
The 21-year-old’s entry into the game coincided with AGF scoring the decisive final two goals to clinch the win after being 1-0 down.
“I always try to make an impact off the bench when I come on, running as hard as I can, putting pressure on the other team,” Ikonomidis told AGF TV.
“Fortunately we did and got a few goals in the end.
“It was fantastic to get onto the field and play with my new team-mates at this beautiful club.”
Ikonomidis made 14 appearances on loan at Serie B club Salernitana last campaign in his first taste of first-team football.
The Sydney-born winger had options during the closing stages of the transfer window with Serie B club Bari, German second tier outfit St Pauli and Dutch club FC Twente but opted for AGF on deadline day.
He is hoping a full season of top flight football with AGF can elevate him to another level.
“I always look to improve,” Ikonomidis said.
“It was my first game, 25 minutes, I’m still understanding Danish football but I think I can give a lot to this team and this club reach good things.”
AGF are seventh after eight games and next face bottom club Silkeborg on Saturday.
