The Portuguese's return to the club he left in 2007 was confirmed on Monday afternoon, with Mourinho signing a four-year deal at Stamford Bridge.

When Mourinho first took control of the club he promised to manage the club with passion, and he insisted he will do the same again, while also insisting that Chelsea meant more to him than any other club he has led at any time in his career.

"It's exactly the same message but now I can say I'm one of you and that makes a little bit of a difference," he told Chelsea TV.

"In my football career I had two great passions; Inter and Chelsea. And Chelsea is more than important for me.

"It was very, very hard to play against Chelsea and I did it only twice, which was not so bad.

"So I promise exactly the same things I promised in 2004. The only difference to have is that I'm one of you."

Mourinho led the club to successive Premier League titles in 2005 and 2006 in his first stint at the club, and also won two League Cups and an FA Cup before falling out with owner Roman Abramovich and departing in 2007.

He added: "I'm very happy, I had to prepare myself to not be too emotional at my arrival at the club, but obviously I am very happy.

"It was an easy decision, I met the the owner and I think in five minutes, after a couple of very short but pragmatic questions, we decided I think straight away.

"I asked the boss 'do you want me back?' and the boss asked me 'do you want to come back?' and in a couple of minutes, decision made.

"I can imagine now, after especially (winning) the Champions League that was the highest point in the club's history, I can suppose that Chelsea is a bigger club in the world, the social mass around the club is much, much bigger.

"I think I have the same nature but much more mature with a different approach to things and much more ready to establish myself at the club and stay for a long, long time.

"When you look at the profile of the Chelsea squad it is what they need at the time.

"It is a young squad with a lot of talent and I think they need stability to reach a higher point in the evolution in their careers. The stability I hope I can give them.

"To be a the same time a Chelsea fan and a Chelsea manager is a new feeling for me and a fantastic feeling for me."

One of Mourinho's early assignments will be in the UEFA Super Cup against old rival Pep Guardiola, but the Portuguese played down the meeting with the former Barcelona boss.

He insisted: "It's not Mourinho and Pep Guardiola, it's Chelsea and Bayern Munich.

"Mourinho did nothing to play this match, and Guardiola did nothing to play this match. The players did it, and the previous managers did it, so I will be in that match just by trying to help my club and my players win the trophy, nothing else."
