There was uncertainty over whether Alex Brosque would play for Sydney next season, after leading the club to a second successive Premiership but falling just short of the 2018 Grand Final.

The Sky Blues captain will play a crucial role in maintaining Sydney's momentum under new coach Steve Corica, and he said he was eager to do so.

“I’m Sydney FC through and through, it’s been a joy to captain this club through the most successful period in their history and I’m glad I’m here to stay,” he said.

“I’m really excited with the direction we’re heading at the moment, Steve Corica as head coach is a fantastic appointment and I know all the players, like me, are eager to play under him and impress.

“We’ve got a fantastic journey ahead of us in season 2018/19, and it’s one I can wait to be a part of.”

Corica said the re-signing of Brosque was "crucial".

“Brosquey is at the heart and soul of everything we do and to be able to retain him is crucial moving forward,” Corica said.

“To have him at the club on this journey in 2018/19 is a massive boost and I can’t wait to get started.”
