The 24-year-old ex-Melbourne Victory and Adelaide United man was the only newcomer to Ange Postecoglou’s latest Australia squad named on Tuesday for next month’s 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Saudi Arabia and Japan.

Austria-born Jeggo only featured once for Sturm Graz last season after joining the club from Adelaide in February, following a mix-up over his citizenship.

Jeggo has this term become the club’s first-choice holding midfielder, starting all nine matches, as Graz has opened up a two-point lead at the top of the Austrian Bundesliga.

The call-up comes at a good time for in-form Melbourne-raised Jeggo who has never represented Australia at any level.

“It’s been a really good start to the season so it’s a bit of a reward for that,” Jeggo told FourFourTwo.

“I’m in a good place with my football but I want to keep moving forward and doing what I’ve been doing to get me to this position.

“I want to go into camp and do well. It’s a nice reward but there’s no taking your foot off the gas.”

Jeggo said he has been happy with his form which has seen him play all except 23 minutes of Sturm Graz’s impressive Bundesliga campaign.

The three-time Austrian champions haven’t lifted the domestic title since 2010-11, with Red Bull Salzburg (currently second) dominating in recent years.

“I’ve been playing as a holding midfielder and we’ve been doing really well,” he said.

“We’re still top and have had a couple of really good results recently. We just need to keep doing what we’re doing and picking up points.

“Personally I’m happy with how I’ve been playing. There’s always things you can improve and things you think you can do better, but I’ve been happy to be playing and contributing to a team doing well.”

Jeggo said he was “absolutely buzzing” after getting the news of his Australia inclusion late last week.

He was more reserved about his chances of playing but cannot wait to get into camp.

“I’m really looking forward to two massive games,” Jeggo said.

“It’ll be a good experience to be around the camp. I just want to take in as much as I can, learn as much as I can and try to make an impression.”

On making his debut, Jeggo added: “I’m not really looking that far ahead.

“I go into camp and want to make an impression as quickly as I can. From there, we’ll see what happens.

“The aim is to go there and try to get on the park but I think it’s about taking each day as it comes.”
