BLACKBURN boss Paul Ince has hailed Harry Redknapp's switch to Tottenham as "a fantastic appointment".
Redknapp will lead Spurs into tomorrow's north London derby after being confirmed as manager over the weekend following the sacking of Juande Ramos and sporting director Damien Comolli.
And former England midfielder Ince believes appointing Redknapp is "a great move" by Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.
He said: "I was surprised, especially at Harry going there. Sometimes you don't get that chance. Tottenham won the League Cup last year and they're looking to move forward.
"People were saying that Comolli was the one who was going to go, not Ramos, so it was a shock, but that's football."
Ince added: "Harry's different class, I love him to death. He's friendly with the lads but they still know he's the boss. He gives that spirit and buzz around the place when he walks into the building, and I think it will be great for Tottenham.
"It's sad that Ramos has gone, but it's a fantastic appointment to bring Harry in, a great move."
Another ex-England midfielder, Chelsea assistant boss Ray Wilkins, also praised the move.
"I am absolutely thrilled for him," said former QPR boss Wilkins.
"It is a wonderful move for him and a good move for Tottenham to have someone in there who is a pure footballing man.
"I am sure he will do a very good job. They have started off exceptionally well. They have a couple of very tough games now but I am sure with his experience he will get them safe."
