South Korea midfielder Park Ji-Sung underwent potentially career saving knee surgery in America, according to his father.
The 26-year-old Manchester United midfielder underwent surgery at Dr Richard Steadman's clinic in Colorado on April 28 after suffering the injury against Blackburn Rovers on March 31.
Steadman has a reputation for successful cruciate ligament operations, with former United forward Ruud van Nistelrooy and current England striker Michael Owen among his exclusive patient list.
"According to doctor Richard Steadman, who performed the operation, Park would not have undergone the operation for such an injury in a normal situation, but it might have ruined Park's career if the injury was not attended to," said Park Sung-Jong.
"The operation was timely, and it prevented aggravation. He will have to be on crutches until August."
The former Kyoto Sanga and PSV Eindhoven midfielder is set to miss July's Asian Cup, where Korea have been drawn in Group D alongside Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and co-hosts Indonesia.
