The French striker came off the bench for the second half and rifled home the winner in the 76th minute in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League clash.

"He played very well for us," Smith told Setanta 1.

"He's been a little bit disappointed, as we have, that he's had an Achilles problem. It's just clearing up right at the present moment.

"I'm obviously delighted for him. Hopefully we can get a continuation of him playing now, rather than this stop-start which we've had since he's come over."

The former Bordeaux striker has settled in well at Rangers, and Smith has been pleasantly surprised by how he interacts with his team-mates, on and off the pitch.

"He's a popular character in the dressing room already," Smith added.

"Sometimes it takes lads coming from other countries a little bit of time to settle in but he was in among them right away."

Rangers now go to Serbia, with their second-leg clash against Red Star Belgrade in the final round of Champions League qualifying taking place on Tuesday.

Smith's side have won seven consecutive matches to start their season in style, and an eighth in Belgrade would be worth millions of pounds to the club.

"It kept the momentum going which is a big thing for us," said Smith.

"It's a tough game [in Belgrade], a game where there'll be a great deal of pressure on it. Having a new team, we'll just have to show we can handle that."

Kilmarnock manager Jim Jefferies bemoaned the ricochets which gave Darcheville his chance to restore Rangers' lead and clinch a 2-1 win, after Danny Invincibile had cancelled out DaMarcus Beasley's opener.

But he had few complaints otherwise.

"It was a terrific effort from the players and nobody's disappointed with their performance," Jefferies told Setanta 1.

Kilmarnock started their season with a creditable draw at Celtic, before beating Dundee United and Motherwell, results which made today's loss easier to take.

"If you'd given me seven points from the first four games, two of those games against the Old Firm, I'd have been delighted," Jefferies said.

"It would have been a great bonus point - or three - today, but we tried and you can't fault the players.

"They stuck at their task and were maybe just a little bit unfortunate not to get a break, when it fell nicely for Rangers in the box."
