The 37-year-old striker underwent tests today after hurting his left knee during Wednesday´s 3-1 win over Palermo.

A statement from the club read: "Filippo Inzaghi underwent an MRI today that showed a lesion to his anterior crucial ligament associated to the external meniscus of his left knee.

"The player will need surgery."

Earlier this month, Inzaghi, who become the record scorer in European competition with 70 goals, overtook Marco van Basten in sixth in Milan´s all-time scoring charts by moving onto 125 for the club.

The former Italy international has scored twice in five league games this season.
