Iraq kicked off their preparations for the Asian Cup finals with a friendly 1-1 draw with Jordan at Amman International stadium on Friday.
The match started quickly as the hosts opened the scoring after only 10 minutes when Hassouna Al Shaikh sent a tempting cross inside the area which was headed home by Awad Ragheb.
However, Iraq levelled the scores in the 25th minute when Ahmed Abbas, who plys his trade with Lebanon champions Al Ansar, capitalised on a defensive error before firing the ball past Jordan goalkeeper Lo'ay Al Amairah.
After the restart, the tempo of the game slowed, but Iraq thought they had scored again in the 78th minute.
Jassim Gholam's strike, though, was disallowed for offside.
The two sides will meet again on Tuesday as Iraq will continue their preparations for the Asian Cup.
They will open their campaign in Group A against co-hosts Thailand on July 7, before playing against newcomers Australia on July 13 and then Oman on July 16.
