AUSTRALIAN goalkeeper Daniel Ireland has signed a new contract keeping him at English Championship club Coventry City until mid-2012.
Sydney-born Ireland, who came through the Coventry academy system, made his Championship debut for the Sky Blues during the 2010-11 season.
However, the 22-year-old keeper's first-team breakthrough was shortlived due to a torn thigh muscle which kept him out for the rest of the season.
But Coventry boss Andy Thorn told the club's website he had seen enough in Ireland to re-sign him on a one-year deal.
"We are delighted that Danny has signed and believe he has a promising future,” Thorn said.
"This is a big season for him and we certainly want to see him challenging for a first team place.
"We've seen a few of the boys here sign new deals in the past couple of weeks and we will now be stepping up our work to bring new players into the club."
Ireland may get an improved chance to challenge for Coventry's number one shirt in the 2011-12 season following the move of first-choice keeper Kieren Westwood to Sunderland.
