Jackson Irvine believes the Socceroos had more to give in this World Cup but have been sent home regardless after a disappointing defeat to Peru.
Australia was beaten 2-0 in Sochi, ensuring elimination and a bottom finish in Group C.
The Socceroos leave Russia with little reward despite promising displays against France and Denmark.
"The overhwleming feeling right now is disappointment," Irvine said in Sochi.
"We've put a lot in this the last few weeks, not even the last few weeks, the last few years. It's been such a huge effort and to go out, especially after the last two performances, I feel we maybe had a bit more to give.
"But we'll reflect. Emotions are running high at the moment, once we settle down we'll reflect on the experience and take what we can from it... But I think we'll improve over the next little while and I think Bert has laid a foundation for everybody."

Australia did not score a goal in open play during the tournament, with two goals coming from penalties.
Irvine agreed a lack of both finishing and creating chances cruelled the Socceroos.
"Yeah, especially today," the midfielder admitted.
"Our end product was lacking. We're so solid, hard to beat, but (conceded) a lot of unlucky goals. Obviously the first goal was a fantastic finish but a deflection for the second one and I don't think they created much else apart from that.
"Sometimes it's a cruel game like that but you have to be ruthless in the final third at this level and unfortunately we weren't able to do that today. A lot of times maybe they weren't final chances, but it was the final pass that lead to a chance that was lacking.
"At this level you have to be ruthless and if you're not - you get punished. It's an issue of both a bit of supply and finishing.
"I look at myself and a couple of times I overhit the header to Timmy slightly, and when you get in behind and you try and square it and it doesn't quite make it across.
"I'm sure everyone will look at their own performance and the little bits where they could have done a bit better."
