Irvine has impressed since joining Burton Albion from Ross County in the off-season on a three-year deal. The 23-year old has been a regular starter for Burton and has banged in eight goals.

He has also captained the Brewers this season and leads the Championship for goals scored by a midfielder.

According to reports, Irvine's exploits at the Pirelli Stadium are attracting attention from a number of clubs. But his suitors will need a large transfer fee to pry him away from Burton, as he is only six months into a three-year contract.

On Monday Irvine's club went down 1-0 at the hands of fellow Australian Bailey Wright's Preston North End.

A first half strike from Tom Clarke was enough for Preston to prevail in the battle of the two Socceroo's clubs. Wright, returning to the Lilywhites' starting XI, helped them to a clean sheet.

The victory moves Preston up to a challenging position towards the playoff places, while Irvine's Burton remain just two spots above the relegation zone.

In other Championship matches, Mile Jedinak's Aston Villa were defeated 1-0 by Cardiff City and Aaron Mooy's Huddersfield Town edged Wigan Athletic 1-0. Massimo Luongo was absent due to injury as QPR beat Ispwich Town 2-0.
