Nabbout's six goals in his previous seven games has helped catapult the Jets to a top two position on the A-League table.

Since the Jets and A-League top scorer Roy O’Donovan has been out injured, Nabbout, who normally plays out wide, has slotted into the striker’s role with great success.

And despite his form, he says Russia 2018 isn't his main target, although it has crossed his mind.

“Ultimately that would be a massive honour for me to play in a World Cup,” he says. “But I’m not really thinking about it at the moment.

“The more I think about that the more I veer away from what I’m trying to do at club level. But obviously, that plays on the back of everyone’s mind. It’s a very big motivation booster and it gives me something to work towards, but ultimately, I’m not thinking about it."

It's not the first time Nabbout's form has seen his name added to the mix for a potential Socceroos call-up.

In January, the 25-year-old was in the midst of another impressive run of form. However, the Jets' slide down to the bottom of the ladder in the second-half of the season saw his case for Socceroos selection lose momentum.

Nabbout’s output of six goals and four assists this term has been virtually ignored when it comes to national team selection, and the former Victory winger said he preferred it that way.

“Flying under the radar is a good thing,” he said. “People don’t expect it from me.

"This year they thought after that goal drought that I went on at the end of last season, that it was going to be the end for me.

“But I’m glad that I’ve been able to show people that I’m still there and I’m still improving and I’m right into the thick of things.

“It feels good to be scoring, especially considering I’m playing out of position and I’ve got big shoes to fill obviously with Roy O’Donovan out because he is top scorer in the A-League at the moment.

“So it feels good to know that I can play up-front if I’m called upon.”

But one thing is for sure, if and when Nabbout does get the chance to put on the green and gold, there is no doubt in his mind that he'll be prepared.

“Like I say to everyone else who has asked me, if one day that call comes I’ll be more than ready and more than happy to play for Australia,” he says

“But like I said, I’m not really going to think about it. I’m more focused on my club football for now because that is the most important factor because ultimately my club is the main platform for me to go forward from there.

“What happens from here on in, whether people want to doubt me or whether people want to pump me up, that is up to them. I’m just going about my football the way I did last season.”
